At Rockfield House, family members and professionals who care for and parent children who have experienced early childhood trauma can come to stay and access specialist training. The rate of burnout among carers and professionals supporting this group can be high and we have created a space of support and recovery for them too.
With greater knowledge and understand, children’s felt safety can be greatly enhanced. The specialist knowledge in this field is growing and we educate and empower significant adults and care workers in the best practices from around the world.
‘Can I just start by telling you, we’re still smilling from the camp. We are still talking about various aspects 8. the children tell everyone we meet something about our visit. The children both beam with sheer pride at all their accomplishments. We loved that there was no rushing. Really excellent for me as the carrer because that’s generally all I do, flitting from one appontment to the next’.
The fun that was had running and hiding & climbing, no child stood out due to age diifence or needs. We found that we could’t tell which child was birth or fostered. Thay all just gelled together, hat’s not something that happens so often. Because of that then it had the added benefit of not having to worry, everyone of us there were in the same boat. The camp only lasted 2 days but it really impacted our household. We learned loads & having some downtime was hugely beneficial for every one of us. All the activites we partook on & yet I felt totally chilled & relaxed. That was something I wasn’t expecting anyway, in fact we were dreading the whole thing.’
